She earned her Ph.D. in social work at the University of California, Berkeley and is a faculty member at the School of Social Work at California State University.Miller is a hospice and palliative care specialist who treats hospitalized patients with terminal or life-altering illnesses at UCSF Medical Center. He also sees patients in a palliative care clinic and at the cancer symptom management service at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
