The Slow Poisoner will be singing songs and slinging wares in the front window space of 357 Union Street, currently a Pop-Up near Union Square (between the Keane and Seuss galleries) and exhibiting the art installation "Memory Corrupt" by ReTech.
Andrew Goldfarb is a fierce multimedia visionary who expresses himself through writing, painting, comics and his one man band The Slow Poisoner. All his work is interconnected and takes place in the same dark, swampy, weird world and he plays the traveling snake oil salesman voodoo priest that brings his own brand of magic with him in a vintage trunk, his guitar shaped like a dying swan, his secret language of eyebrows, his velvet paintings, and his own genuine miracle tonic.
M3MORY CORRUPT: ReTech has transformed this former Union Square gallery (the old CK Contemporary space) into a post apocalyptic-looking mineshaft with soiled tarpaper draped across the walls as a backdrop to ReTech's thought provoking and marvellously executed sculptures.
Think Don Delillo's magnum opus "Underworld" and you'll know what I mean. Like something main character Nick Shay would have stumbled upon at the 'Fresh Kills' dump site. I left the gallery feeling inspired by the work, yet weary in thought about the state of the nation and the overload of information that we consume daily. I suppose this is what makes ReTech's show such a brilliant one. I for one will definitely be back. Theres a lot to explore and understand in this thought-provoking show. ~ Scott Schryver
