Other Stranger 1 Yr. anniversary w/ Katrina Fairlee

Exactly one year ago we threw the first Other Stranger at the Stud. The idea was to present musicians and DJ's making wild sound outside of the realm of what you might normally hear in a nightclub. It has been a fantastic year of freakouts and we are throwing a special one off Saturday night party at our favorite little clubhouse.

KATRINA FAIRLEE (Austin, TX-Jackie O'Body's School of Dance, FIT sound, Timeline Methrave) Katrina Fairlee has been tirelessly honing her skills both behind the decks and banging on machines in her studio in Austin, Texas. Katrina is part of the crew called Timelife Methrave, which started an online radio show titled Tunnel Dive in order to highlight underground electronic producers and DJs. She recently pumped out a jammer collaboration with Sneaker DJ and Joshua Cordova that was released on the the Fit Sound label. It took seeing a few short clips of a recent live set in Dallas to convince us that we had to have her do a live PA at Other Stranger. We welcome this member of the freak Jackie O'Body fam for her San Francisco debut.
CEREMONIAL ABYSS (Olympia-Katabik, Cuss-Festish)
Ceremonial Abyss has cultivated a discipline of performative, experiential composition using an arsenal of classic analog hardware; deriving new life from dusty technology. Since his first self-titled tape release on Olympia, WA label Cuss Fetish in 2015, Ceremonial Abyss releases have displayed a minimalistic and grim aesthetic - while providing a truly idiosyncratic take on 1990s tekno tropes. He has been a resolute collaborator with Katabatik since the projects inception; collaborating with Atlea and Identity Theft on the "Hymns of Orpheus" releases, as well as participating in many live sessions at the Katabatik Kampouts and various underground events.

BEAST NEST- (Oakland-Ratskin Records)SHARMI BASU is an Oakland born and based South Asian woman of color creating experimental music as a means of decolonizing musical language. She attempts to catalyze a political, yet ethereal aesthetic by combining her anti-colonial and anti-imperialist politics with a commitment to spirituality within the arts. Beast Nest, Sharmi's primary performing project, utilizes an unwavering depression and restrained horror to channel left-eyed spirits. She is an MFA graduate from the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College in Electronic Music and Recording Media and has worked with Fred Frith, Roscoe Mitchell, John Bischoff, Pauline Oliveros, Chris Brown, Maggi Payne, and more. Her workshops on "Decolonizing Sound" have been featured at the International Society for Improvised Music, the Empowering Women of Color Conference, and have reached international audiences. She performs almost 100 times a year and has toured through the US and Canada as well as internationally in Europe. She specializes in new media controllers, improvisation in electronic music, and intersectionality within music and social justice. She also founded and hosts an all people-of-color improvisation and performance group called the MARA Performance Collective in Oakland, CA and was an organizer the Universe is Lit: A Bay Area Black and Brown Punk Fest.

((ARC)) is the moniker of the former Bay Area experimental filmmaker, visual artist, and experimental musician known as Tooth. He founded Blackhole Cinematheque in 2009 as a celluloid film archive and began holding screenings in 2011 at his wharehouse residence in Oakland knows as The Church. He was also instrumental in starting an artist run film lab in Oakland as well as the Light Field film festival. He recently performed film projections for Katabatik artists Abandoned Footwear at the Mutek festival in San Francisco. For Other Stranger, he will be presenting a 4 protector film piece with musical accompaniment. We are so happy to have him as a part of this this line-up.
