Carmel Mission Basilica

Religion , Church , Museums , Cultural Museum , City , Landmark

This historic Mission has been renovated to its previous glory as both a Catholic Mission and now a thriving parish and school. The Basilica reflects the beautiful adobe architechture and houses many antique religious effigies and altars. The tomb of its founder, Father Sierra Junipero is entombed under the floor of the altar in the church.  The living quarters of the monks are preserved in their original decor and artifacts. Tours are available or you can come and walk the grounds during their operating hours at your leisure.

Any trip to Carmel would not be complete without experiencing this exquisite gem of Carmel's past history.
