16th SF Independent Film Festival

SEE EVENT DETAILS
It's SF IndieFest's SWEET 16 this year! (As if we ever possessed a child-like innocence.) So this year it's all about rebellion! Like taking Dad's car out to the lake to make out and drink cheap beer! Sure, OK, some of us might still be doing that. Our adult rebellions feature tastier beer.

Anyway... have we got a line up of great films for you! Starting off with Opening Night Film THE CONGRESS, a heady blend of live action and animation from Ari Folman (Waltzing with Bashir), based on Stanislaw Lem’s classic sci-fi novel and starring Robin Wright and Harvey Keitel.

Two weeks, 75 films and 5 parties later, the fest wraps with BLUE RUIN, Jeremy Saulnier's (Murder Party) Cannes-winning tale of rural revenge. In between there are tons of soon-to-be classics and hidden gems that our team of film curators have discovered to present to you this year.

TEENAGE is an arty hybrid doc/drama that explores the mid 20th Century explosion of the teenager. DOOMSDAYS is a self-proclaimed “pre-apocolyptic comedy,” ASPHALT WATCHES is a psychedelic animated road movie, and the TIFF prizewinner from underground comix darlings Seth Scriver and Shayne Ehman, ALMOST HUMAN is a refreshingly intense thriller. LOVE SONGS FROM TIEDAN is a lively romantic comedy set in China in the 60s and 70s.

We have Bill Plympton's new feature CHEATIN', a local indie called REMEMBER YOU'RE SPECIAL that features characters anyone from SF will recognize immediately, and LETS RUIN IT WITH BABIES, a film that explores relationships when they reach That Point.

And that's just 10 of the 75 films in this year's festival.

PLUS there are the usual IndieFest roadside attractions: our annual Super Bowl presentation/comedy show we call Super Bowl: Men in Tights on Sunday Feb 2, our Roller Disco on Fri Feb 7, the Bad Art Gallery is back Sat Feb 8 with a fun new film-themed Pub Quiz, our annual Anti Valentine's Day 80s Power Ballad Sing A Long is Fri Feb 14, and the 11th annual Big Lebowski Party is on Sat Feb 15.

And this year we are kicking off the festival with two great bands playing after the Opening Night Film at the Brava Theater Feb 6: San Diego's VOKAB KOMPANY (a Hip Hop/EDM/live band featuring electric violin) and local fellas GENE WASHINGTON AND THE IRONSIDES (Stax/Motown Soul with a capital "S"). Our Sweet 16 Opening Night film+party is definitely not to be missed.

Yes, we like to keep the Festival festive! So come see some great films, meet some filmmakers, mingle with coolest folks in San Francisco at our parties and generally plan to spend quite a bit of early February at the Roxie and New Parkway Theaters.
