MEMORY CORRUPT
Works by ReTech
June 1st - August 3rd

Art Thou Gallery, 357 Geary St, San Francisco
Opening Reception June 1st 6-9pm
Gallery Hours: Thurs - Sat 11am - 2pm 3-6pm

MEMORY CORRUPT is a fantastical sci-fi world characterized by the innovative use of broken technology spanning over 150 years. Salvaged parts from old radios, cars, TVs, kitchen appliances and various home appliances find new purpose in sculptural creations resulting in a harmonious blend of nostalgia and futuristic elements. Simultaneously, it is a world built on a child's nightmares envisioning a future in which humanity didn't fare well. A world where the future warns against a bio-mech emergence.

"As a child I was a vivid dreamer that began to have nightmares at age 2. By age 4 they began to tell a story of me living in a future over 100 years away... From the discarded past and dreams of the future I started to create objects so I could have a tangible hold on that world that only I knew.

I will take apart an old machine, impressed with, not only the parts, but the design, the how, and the why. In that machine there will be a single piece that just clicks into place as part of one of my objects. Instantly all the other bits I need will float around in my head. From that point that object intrusively clouds my mind. It needs to be here, in the real world, a tactile thing." ReTech

ReTech's background as an artist is rooted in his early years. At the age of 7, he created his first sci-fi playset using clay, wire bits, old tools, and broken radio pieces. Throughout his artistic journey, he has explored various mediums including theater, writing and graphic arts. His true passion lies in sculpture as he continuously returns to this form of artistic expression. ReTech's recent solo show Remeberwise Forwardthought took place in November 2023 at
UMA Gallery Oakland.

Opening reception: June 1st 6-9pm. Artist in attendance.

MEMORY CORRUPT is being curated by Donna Davis, UMA Gallery.
